I spent the morning browsing at the Campmor retail store in
Paramus, New Jersey. In the afternoon I hurried out to the New
Jersey high point and got there just before they closed the
monument which sits atop it in New Jersey's High Point State
Park. This is a surprisingly pretty area for a state which
is so densly populated. It was especially beautiful on this
particular day since there was still a lot of fall color in
the trees. On the way home I stopped and had a very
cozy dinner in the artsy little community of Milford,
Pennsylvania.
If you plan to do the New Jersey highpoint you might want
to combine your visit with some hiking in the nearby Delaware
Water Gap National Recreation Area. I explored it on a later
weekend. Don't expect a wilderness experience. The trails are
enjoyable but unfortunately never too far from civilization.
