Over the years I had visited a few state highpoints in my travels, but around 1993 I decided to make it a personal goal to visit the highpoint of each of the 50 states.

A few months later I discovered I was far from alone in my quest. I happened upon a guidebook, Highpoints of the United States, by Don W. Holmes. From it I learned there is a club of like-minded people called the Highpointers Club, which I joined.

Reading the book I also discovered I had missed the exact highpoints of Rhode Island and Vermont. I revisited Rhode Island to stand on the precise spot, but I have yet to "avenge" Vermont.

My personal progress report follows. I have included a trip report for each completed highpoint, plus one for my failed first attempt at Idaho. Most trip reports are accompanied by thumbnailed photos. I think you'll find the Utah, Wyoming, Montana and California photos are particularly worth a look.

My state highpoint total currently stands at 30
